Abstract
This essay is concerned with Ibn Taymiyyah's view on swearing to someone other than God. Ibn Taymiyyah maintains that swearing to someone other than God is Haram, while the mainstream scholars do not accept it. The main point in this issue is that Ibn Taymiyyah thinks that swearing is issue of faith. He resorts to a weak narration to prove his idea. In this narration swearing to God is introduced as polytheism and against the monotheism. In this essay it is to consider this Hadith and verify it. The result is as the following: labeling Muslims as pagans for swearing to someone other that God is against the verses of Quran, the tradition of the Holy prophet and behaviors of his companions. The next point is that Ibn Taymiyyah misunderstood the meaning of Hadith and his meaning of this Hadith is incorrect. Moreover, he did not comply with his principle and swore to someone other that God many times.
