Examining the Position of Literalism in Wahhabi Interpretation of Quranic Verses and Its Consequences in Declaring Muslims as Infidels (Takfir)

Abstract
Today, Islamic societies face a challenge called indiscriminate Takfir and religious extremism. In analyzing the reasons for the formation of this extremism and violence among some Islamic groups, such as Wahhabism, in addition to political motives, we encounter several factors, including incorrect interpretations of religious texts. The reliance of this sect on the literal meaning of some Quranic verses and their method of reasoning have left dire consequences, such as Takfir, among Islamic societies. The literalism intended by Wahhabism means the validity of any initial appearance and the denial of systematic interpretation (ta'wil), which is critiqued in this article. This article critiques and examines the disadvantages of adopting this method in understanding religion and also examines some examples of the tendency towards literalism from the Wahhabi perspective in deriving religious teachings from the Quran.
