Review and Critique of the Arguments against Celebrating the Prophet's Birthday (PBUH)

The celebration of Mawlid al-Nabi, or the Prophet's birthday (PBUH), is a ceremony that has been prevalent among Muslims for centuries and is recognized as a symbol of love and devotion to his noble character. However, some Islamic scholars from various schools of thought have deemed it forbidden for reasons such as considering it an innovation (bid'ah), the lack of attention to it by the predecessors (salaf), worship of other than God, reliance on the narration "Do not take my grave as a place of celebration," resemblance to disbelievers, and corrupting consequences, and they consider those who hold this celebration as innovators in religion and misguided. The author, using library resources and a descriptive-analytical method, has reviewed and critiqued the arguments of the opponents in this discussion and examined each of these reasons in detail. The research findings show that the opponents' claim of the prohibition and innovation of the celebration is baseless. Based on the verses of the Quran and reliable narrative sources, holding this celebration is not only not forbidden but also emphasized and recommended by the Holy Prophet (PBUH). In addition to the verses and narrations, the tradition of Muslims and Muslim scholars throughout the centuries emphasizes holding such ceremonies. This research examines the main reasons of the opponents and the necessity of scientific analysis regarding the celebration of the Prophet's birthday (PBUH).
