Abstract
Many of the Sunni scholars maintain that the verse 274 in the Quran from Surah al-Baqarah, known as the "charity verse" is descended about Imam Ali (PBH). Ibn Taymiyyah is trying to doubt on this case and deny the relation of this verse with Imam Ali (PBH).  In this essay, referring to valid Sunni sources, the validity of Taymiyyah' claim will be verified. According to so many documents by Sunni and Shia scholars, this verse is descended about Imam Ali (PBH). We have so many narrations proving this claim. Ibn Taymiyyah, relying only in one weak narration, tries to undermine the validity of this hadith. While this narration is narrated in other sources as well, which compensate the weakness on that case. On the other hand, Ibn Taymiyyah tries to undermine this verse by saying that this verse has a broad meaning. But we must know that descending something about something has no relation with broadness in meaning. The meaning of a verse may be broad, but the cause of its descending is particular and be proved by hadiths. He claims that the cause of its descending is not merit for Imam Ali (PBH), while other scholars and he himself in so many cases believe that the cause of descending by itself is merit.
